THE PHILIP LYNOTT EXHIBITION EXTENDS ITS RUN DUE TO PHENOMENAL PUBLIC DEMAND – 2011
Rock enthusiasts, music fans, tourists, schools and families have all flocked to the critically acclaimed exhibition to honour Philip Lynott. Still In Love With You: The Philip Lynott Exhibition opened its doors to rave reviews from the media and public alike (see quotes below), with many visitors coming to Dublin specially to relive the magical and momentous times in the life of Ireland’s iconic rock legend. Now, due to popular demand, The Philip Lynott Exhibition is extending its run by a further 4 weeks.
“The reaction has been amazing,” said Niall Stokes of Hot Press. “There has been a steady stream of visitors, many of them coming from overseas, and everyone has been raving about the quality of the exhibition. We set out to create something that Irish people could feel proud of and I think we have done that. We are hugely gratified – and also humbled – by the enormously positive reaction. In addition to enabling everyone in Ireland who is interested in music to catch the exhibition, extending the run will create the opportunity for fans to travel in even greater numbers from the UK and further afield, and so we are really pleased that we have been able to make this happen.”
2011 marks the 25th anniversary of the death of the Thin Lizzy singer and the exhibition gives a unique insight into the background, work and life of Ireland’s pioneering rock star. The Philip Lynott Exhibition brings visitors on an amazing journey telling the unique story of Philip Lynott, and the Creative Space at the top of Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre which was custom built and took 3 months to construct plays host to the exhibition.
The exhibition is home to the biggest ever collection of memorabilia, song lyrics, exhibits, paintings, tributes and photographs of the late rock legend. Presented by Hot Press, the initiative is supported by The Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport, the Dublin UNESCO City of Literature, Dublin City Council, Dublin City BID, Dublin Tourism, Jameson, The Irish Daily Star and RTE2fm, and has already been seen by thousands from Ireland and abroad.

It also feature a huge amount of new material from the Hot Press archives, as well as additional photographs, original paintings and other exclusive artwork. There are also video installations and other audio-visual material, including interviews with Bono, Imelda May, Joe Elliot and many more.
A huge amount of material relating to Ireland’s most romantic rock hero has been uncovered from the archives, to form a must-see exhibition, which has attracted visitors in their droves from Ireland and internationally. In what is a remarkable reflection of the renewed interest in Philip Lynott and his background, the newly updated My Boy by Philomena Lynott has been selling exceptionally well, holding down the No.2 spot in the Non Fiction Paperback best-sellers in Ireland for the past three weeks. In it, Philomena Lynott, for the first time, tells the astonishing story of Philip’s sister Jeanette and his brother Leslie, who were given up for adoption in the early 1950s.

“Hot Press has mounted an impressive and reverential exhibition… It is almost as grand in its own way as the National Library of Ireland’s exhibition on the life and work of WB Yeats.“ Fintan O’Toole, Irish Times
“I found out things I didn’t know, some things I had forgotten and enjoyed the experience profoundly!“ “ Cathleen Lynott, daughter of Philip
“It’s a great exhibition, I love it. What’s really appealing is how interactive it is, especially for the children – and the cinema area as well. It breaks up the whole journey nicely.
I love the cabinets and the depth of field they give the guitars, because you usually don’t get to see the back of them. So you get to see the whole juxtaposition between the guitars. I love how the managers have kept the receipts, all the big bar bills! It’s brilliant. I think it’s a great exhibition, especially the bronze work. And some of the artwork that’s been commissioned is great” – Marti Pellow, formally of Wet Wet Wet
“I was taken by surprise by the reach and range of the show, a credit to all of us who are hoarders! and by how moving it was to see and remember such joys and achievements. Though it’s a memorial tribute, there was a life in that space. Hats off to those who assembled it! It was fascinating to look at this exhibition through the eyes of my eighteen-year-old daughter. She knew the great songs, of course, but she kept repeating, ‘I didn’t know he was so beautiful’. I guess I always did. It’s a goodness to have this confirmation and reminder.” Peter Fallon, poet and friend of Philip Lynott
It’s a wonderful tribute to Philip. I’m very impressed. It’s magnificent. Come along and see it! Jim Fitzpatrick, artist and friend of Philip Lynott
“It’s just beautiful, It’ll be very emotional for the hard core Lizzy fan looking at the black coat he wore in the Old Town video, the guitars and even the ‘Where’s Gus’ tour jacket! It’s a really great exhibition.” Noel McHale, promoter (MCD)
“I thought it was excellent in every way… The detail is amazing. I brought my son and daughter and they had a ball checking out all the displays. I was most happy and proud to have been there at such an event and I’m sure Philip would agree.” – Fran Quigley, boss of CAVS
“Anybody who has an interest in Philip should see it.”– Smiley Bolger, founder of the Vibe for Philo
